De metro van Wenen , werd geopend in 1976, hoewel de basis van het systeem al veel ouder is. De exploitatie van de metro is in handen van Wiener Linien, het gemeentelijk vervoersbedrijf in de Oostenrijkse hoofdstad.
Op dit moment bestaat de Weense metro uit vijf lijnen en bedraagt de lengte van de lijnen circa 78 kilometer. De metro van Wenen telt momenteel 104 stations. De treinen rijden tussen ongeveer 05.00 uur en 0.30 uur met tussenpozen van 2 tot 5 minuten, afhankelijk van het tijdstip en de dag van de week.
