Dit is wat men in Brussel de Europese wijk noemt. Op de vele terrasjes van het plein ontmoet gans Europa elkaar om een glas te drinken na de werkuren. De monumentale gevel in het midden van het plein is wat er overblijft van het oude Luxemburg station. Daarachter liggen de kantoren en de vergaderzalen voor de Europarlementariërs. De buurt telt tienduizenden m² kantooroppervlakte waar eurocraten, advocaten, lobbyisten en tal van andere medewerkers het Europese project overdag vorm komen geven. Na de uren gaat die vormgeving verder op het plein maar dan eerder op relationeel vlak. Voorheen was dit de eerste stadsuitbreiding na 1835 die vooral aristocraten en rijke industriëlen aantrok en dat is duidelijk te zien aan de gebouwen.
