Aan de voet van de Scheldebrug, op de rotonde, staat een herinneringsmonument aan de 12de-eeuwse burcht, in Doornikse steen, nabij de oorspronkelijke plaats. De Franse koning Louis XIV liet deze versterking op de Schelde-oever in 1648 vernietigen.
Over de brug rijden we verder over de Moerbeek, de grens tussen Gavere en Asper. Rechts zie je het bedrijf Breydel, producent van Breydelham, Breydelspek e.a., erkend als Oost-Vlaamse streekproducten.
