De ondergrond van Kain bestaat uit kalksteen. Deze kalksteen heeft de eigenschap dat deze soms oplost in water (het omgekeerde van wat in jouw koffiezet gebeurt). Door de oplossingen van die kalksteen in de ondergrond komen hier regelmatig inzakkingen voor. Deze inzakkingen zijn gekend als dolinas. Zo ontstond een specatuculair voorbeeld van een doline op 17 mei 1979. Plots was er een put van 10m doorsnee en 10m diep.
