Melle is een plaats en gemeente in de Belgische provincie Oost-Vlaanderen. De gemeente ligt net ten zuidoosten van de provinciehoofdstad Gent en wordt doorkruist door de Ringvaart en de rivier de Schelde. De gemeente telt ruim 11.000 inwoners, die Mellenaars worden genoemd. De patroonheilige van de gemeente is Martinus van Tours. Ook de kerk in het centrum is aan hem toegewijd.Op het dorpsplein vind je, zoals in vele gemeenten het Heilig Hart van Jezus, uitgebeeld met een standbeeld op het kerkplein rechtover de Sint-Martinuskerk. Die devotie stamt van na de wapenstilstand van wereldoorlog I.
