Waregem is een stad in het zuidoosten van de provincie West-Vlaanderen in België. De stad telt bijna 36.000 inwoners en is daarmee de op vier na grootste stad van de kustprovincie.
Tot voor 1977 was Waregem enkel de huidige hoofdgemeente, de andere kernen Beveren-Leie, Desselgem en Sint-Eloois-Vijve waren aparte gemeenten. Op 1 januari 1977 werden bij de gemeentelijke herindeling de gemeenten gefusioneerd tot één grote gemeente Waregem. Voortaan was er slechts één burgemeester en werd een nieuw wapenschild in gebruik genomen. Op 23 juni 1999 werd in het Belgische federale parlement de wet tot toekenning van de titel van Stad aan de gemeente Waregem goedgekeurd. Door deze wet mag Waregem zich sinds 1 januari 2000 officieel stad noemen.
