Wervik is een stad in de Belgische provincie West-Vlaanderen. De stad ligt langs de Leie, die er de grens met Frankrijk vormt. Aan de overzijde van de Leie ligt de Franse gemeente Zuid-Wervik . De stad heeft een oppervlakte van 4361 ha en meer dan 18.000 inwoners, die Wervikanen worden genoemd.
Steentijdartefacten werden gevonden op de wijk Laag-Vlaanderen en het domein Oosthove. De archeologische opgravingen aan de Pionier in 2009 leverden bewoningssporen uit de IJzertijd tot de Romeinse periode op.
