De Zonnebeekse dorpen zijn niet alleen bekend omwille van hun rijke cultuur erfgoed, maar ook om hun pittoreske landschappen, veldwegels en verschillende bosgebieden. Het bekendste is zeker het Polygoon- of Doelbos (68ha)met meer dan 5km wandelpaden. De naam weerklinkt op elk Australisch monument. Het bos, voor de oorlog militair domein, werd met veel verliezen ingenomen op 26 seotelber 1917. Een vooroorlogse schietheuvel zit thans ng vol met onderaardse gangne. Boven op de heuvel staat nu het monument voor de 5de Australische divisie, met er naast de begraafplaats Buttes New British Cemetry. Daar is ook een speciaal monument voor de Nieuw-Zeelanders die in de winder 1917-1918 in de omgeving vermist zijn. Naast het bos vind je het kleine Polygone Wood Cemetry.
