Hier begint de geschiedenis van Aarlen. Tijdens het Romeinse tijdperk ontwikkelde zich hier een cultus ter ere van Apollo. Het water van de Semois voedde de Romeinse warmwaterbaden die zich enkele honderden meters verder bevonden. Beschermd door de heuvel en permanent voorzien van drinkwater, ontwikkelde zich hier een welvarend stadje: Aarlen.
