Assenede is een gemeente in de Belgische provincie Oost-Vlaanderen. De gemeente ligt in de regio Meetjesland, is samengesteld uit vier deelgemeenten en telt in totaal zo'n 14.200 inwoners, die Assenedenaars worden genoemd. In de volksmond wordt Assenede als "Asnee" uitgesproken, wat bij mondelinge communicatie tot verwarring kan leiden met het Leiedorp Afsnee bij Gent, waar het verder niets mee te maken heeft.
