Koksijde is een plaats en gemeente in de Belgische provincie West-Vlaanderen, gelegen aan de Belgische Westkust. De gemeente telt bijna 22.000 inwoners.In de 7e en 8e eeuw was er Merovingische bewoning op het grondgebied van Koksijde. Een grafveld is aangetroffen met 53 overledenen uit die tijd. Op basis van uitgebreide genetisch onderzoek van Prof. Maarten Larmuseau waren de individuen niet nauw met elkaar verwant ondanks dat dit door de archeologen wel werd verwacht. Dit betekent dat de begraven individuen in Koksijde uit de wijde omgeving afkomstig waren en niet uit een kleine familiale groep. Op basis van isotopenanalyse hadden ze bovendien diverse eetgewoonten .
