Vlijtingen is een deelgemeente van Riemst en ligt in het zuidoosten van Limburg in de regio Haspengouw. Vlijtingen, bestaande uit het dorp zelf en het gehucht Lafelt, telt 2648 inwoners en bestrijkt een oppervlakte van 878 hectare.
In het lokale dialect wordt het dorp Vlètegge genoemd. Flétange is de Franse benaming en Flétindje de Waalse. De dorpel van de Sint-Albanus kerk ligt 85,10 meter boven de zeespiegel.
