Hemiksem is een gemeente in de Belgische provincie Antwerpen. Hemiksem telt ongeveer 11.000 inwoners. Het dorp ligt op de rechteroever van de Schelde, enkele kilometers ten zuiden van de stad Antwerpen. Hemiksem ligt in de Rupelstreek en behoort tot het kieskanton en het gerechtelijk kanton Boom.Hemiksem werd voor het eerst vermeld in 1155, en wel als Hamincsem. In 1243 kwamen de cisterciënzers vanuit Vremde naar Hemiksem en stichtten daar de Sint-Bernardusabdij, die tevens het bestuur van de heerlijkheid Hemiksem in handen kreeg.
