Vollezele is beroemd als het centrum van het Brabants trekpaard. Zuidwest-Brabant schonk zijn naam ook aan het levend erfgoed dat nog steeds op de hellende weilanden graast: de Brabander is een fors boerenpaard dat zijn roots heeft in de stallen van Vollezele en vandaar ‘de wereld heeft veroverd’. Deze paarden vormden tot de mechanisering en het gebruik van tractoren na de Eerste Wereldoorlog de belangrijkste bron van trekkracht in landbouw, transport en industrie. De kweek ervan gebeurde zowel in een kwadraatshoeve (o.m. Bree-eik in Sint-Kwintens-Lennik, het Hof te Rammeken in Gaasbeek, het Hof Terhagen en het kasteeldomein van Steenhout in Vollezele) als in een stoeterij-fokkerij, zoals die van Remy Van Der Schueren, ook in Vollezele.
