In al zijn bescheidenheid is dit vissershuisje, dat dateert uit de tweede helft van de 19de eeuw, een unieke getuige van het leven aan de kust in de periode vóór het toerisme.
Weggestoken en uitgegraven achter de duinen, met ramen en deuren richting hinterland, bouwden de toenmalige kustbewoners hun woning op zo'n wijze dat ze maximale natuurlijke beschutting kregen tegen weer en wind.
Dit staat in schril contrast met de bouwwijze van de eerste toeristen die de duinen aan de zeekant afgroeven en hun villa's, omwille van het mooie uitzicht, met de gevel richting zee bouwden.
