Description

Het veer van Appels-Berlare wordt al vermeld in documenten van 1255. Op oude kaarten staat de vermelding 'Appelsveer', maar de inwoners aan de overkant spreken over het 'veer van Berlare'. Zoals ook bij andere veren werden vroeger met een pont dieren, kruiwagens en karren overgezet. De omgeving van het veer diende als decor in de Vlaamse cultfilm 'Mira', gebaseerd op Stijn Streuvels' roman 'De teleurgang van de Waterhoek'. In dezelfde film komt ook de Mirabrug over de Durme in Hamme voor.
