Deze kerk, in de wijk Schurhoven, is geklasseerd sedert 1983. Ze is boeiend gelegen op een boogscheut van het Truiense begijnhof. Men neemt aan dat Schurhoven zowat tegelijk met het centrum van Sint-Truiden tot stand kwam.
Die stad lag op de bedevaartweg van Keulen naar Brussel en zo verder naar Sint-Jacob in het Spaanse Compostella. Net buiten de muren, aan de Niefpoort, werd daarom een kerk toegewijd aan de apostel Jacobus. Zijn beeld vindt men in de kerk, met pelgrimsstraf, hoed en typische schelp. De kerk werd alleszins al in 1215 vermeld. De huidige classicistische kerk, met merkwaardig torentje, dateert uit de tweede helft van de achttiende eeuw.
