In 1590 op 20 januari werd een vrouw hier gewurgd en verbrand op de Grote Markt van Lier. Ze was schuldig bevonden aan hekserij. Het was Catelyne Van den Bulcke uit Nijlen. Op de markt is nog een gedenksteen te vinden van het heksenproces.
