Hier woonde de rijke industrieel Hector Carlier met zijn vrouw Amalia Goossens.
Begin jaren 30 van vorige eeuw leerde Hector Amalia Goossens kennen. Een meisje van eenvoudige komaf. Ze werkte in het baancafé van haar vader, Le Tigre Royal in Ekeren, dat tegelijk een rendez-voushuis was. Het is altijd onduidelijk geweest of Amalia – Emma werd ze toen genoemd – dienster was dan wel gezelschapsdame. In elk geval werd Hector verliefd op de 26 jaar jongere vrouw, iets wat in die tijd niet goed viel in de bourgeoisie waar hij deel van uitmaakte. Toen Amalia zwanger raakte, trouwden ze halsoverkop en namen hun intrek in het kasteel Boterberg in Kalmthout. Ze kregen drie kinderen. Marie-Antoinette was de oudste, daarna was er nog een dochter, Amalia, en een zoon, Ferdinand.
