Met de heraanplant na de kaalslag van de Eerste Wereldoorlog speelt de beuk nu de eerste viool in het Muziekbos. De beuk laat met zijn dichte kruin echter weinig licht door. Hierdoor is plaatselijk de ondergroei in het bos beperkt. Gelukkig vormen wilde hyacint, kleine maagdenpalm en daslook elk voorjaar hier een kleurrijke uitzondering op. Gericht kappen van bomen in bepaalde zones zullen het Muziekbos op termijn omvormen tot een gemengd loofbos met beuk, kers, eik en es.
