Zowel in de kerk als op het kerkhof is er aandacht voor de burgerslachtoffers van de Eerste Wereldoorlog. De herdenkingsplaat in de kerk heeft iets mystieks. Het oorlogsmonument op het kerkhof is totaal anders opgevat. Het universele thema van het familieverdriet maakt het veel toegankelijker.
