Het smalste huis van Antwerpen is amper 2,23 meter breed en staat in de Huikstraat. Maar ook in Deurne-Noord vind je huizen met een beperkte gevelbreedte. Het zijn de Confortawoningen die soms maar 3,7 meter breed zijn. Ze werden gebouwd tussen 1925 en 1930 door de NV Comptoir Général du Bâtiment – Bouwonderneming Conforta.
Naast de smalle Conforta’s zie je in de wijk ook de typische huizen met de dubbele voordeur. Daarin leven twee gezinnen, met elk een eigen voordeur. Conforta zegde een eigen woning bereikbaar te maken voor arbeiders. Maar daarbij negeerde de maatschappij naar hartenlust de geldende bouwvoorschriften, puur om speculatieve redenen.
