Geschriften wijzen uit dat deze oude watermolen al voor het jaar 1302 werd gebouwd. Zeker is dat de molen in 1544 eigendom werd van graaf Lamoraal van Egmont. Vandaag ontvangt Natuurpunt Zwalmvallei u op deze molen.
Op 11 mei 2014 werd de Boembekemolen -na een lange restauratie – weer in gebruik genomen. Hij is nu een uitvalsbasis voor zachte vormen van recreatie en voor natuurontwikkeling, -beleving en –educatie in de Zwalmvallei.
