Gesticht door de Nionnionsé in de 11de eeuw onder de naam Kombemtinga - 'land van de krijgers'. In 1441 werd Kombemtinga door Naba Oubri omgedoopt naar Ouagadougou.
Het paleis van de Mogho Naba is niet open voor het publiek, maar men kan wel de 'ceremonie van het valse vertrek' bijwonen elke vrijdag ochtend.
De Mogho Naba kan ook een onderhoud toekennen, omringt door zijn ministers : Larlé Naba, de Baloum Naba, de Gounga Naba, de Ouidi Naba en de Kamsaoghin Naba.
Ouagadougou is een moderne stad geworden, hoofdstad van Burkina Faso.
Enkele overblijfselen van het glorieuze verleden zijn nog steeds te vinden : de Moro Naba geniet nog steeds het aanzien van een geestelijk en moreel gezag en wordt nog steeds geconsulteerd in verband met de grote en interessante vraagstukken van het land.
