De stad ligt aan de zuidrand van het middelsaksisch heuvelland aan de oevers van de Freiberger Mulde. Dresden ligt 31 km ten oosten van Nossen en Chemnitz 36 km in zuidwestelijke richting. De stad telt 10.598 inwoners.
