Wezel is een historische vestingstad en hoofdstad van Kreis Wesel in de deelstaat Noordrijn-Westfalen, Duitsland. Wezel ligt aan de rivier de Rijn, gelegen tussen het Ruhrgebied en de Nederlandse grens bij Bocholt. De stad telt 60.329 inwoners op een oppervlakte van 122,53 km².
Wezel behoorde tot het Hertogdom Kleef, dat sinds 1666 deel uitmaakte van Brandenburg-Pruisen. Het heeft sterke historische banden met Nederland. Tijdens de Inname van Wesel werd de stad bevrijd van de Spaanse bezetting. Tijdens de Tachtigjarige Oorlog kende de stad een groot aantal protestants-Nederlandse vluchtelingen die voor de Spaanse vervolgingen waren gevlucht. In Wezel werd tot in de 19e eeuw een aan het Nederlands verwant dialect gesproken.
