Emden is een kreisfreie Stadt in Duitse deelstaat Nedersaksen, gelegen aan de Eems. Het is de grootste stad van de regio Oost-Friesland en heeft de westelijkste zeehaven van Duitsland. Als kreisfreie Stadt behoort Emden niet tot een Landkreis, het stadsbestuur oefent tegelijk ook de bevoegdheden van het Landkreisniveau uit. De stad telt 49.874 inwoners op een oppervlakte van 112,34 km². Daarmee is Emden qua inwoners de kleinste kreisfreie stad in Nedersaksen.
