De begin vormde een boerderij nabij Rorup, die was nagelaten aan het bisdom Münster. In 1856 vestigden zich hier de redemptoristen. Dit eerste klooster moest in 1873 sluiten als gevolg van de cultuurstrijd. Na het einde daarvan verhuisden in 1891 Duitse benedictinessen van het Heiligste Sacrament uit het Nederlandse Oldenzaal naar het klooster. In 1895 begonnen de nonnen met de hostiebakkerij. Vanuit Hamicolt werd in 1898 het klooster Vinnenberg nieuw leven ingeblazen en in 1902 werd de abdij Varensell opgericht. In Hamicolt exploiteerden de zusters een hostiebakkerij en een paramentenborduurwerkplaats. De laatste acht zusters verhuisden op 1 maart 2008 naar het katholieke bejaardentehuis in Rosendahl-Osterwick.
