De Slag bij Mühlberg van 24 april 1547 was een grote veldslag bij Mühlberg in het Duitse keurvorstendom Saksen tijdens de protestantse reformatie waarbij de katholieke vorsten van het Heilige Roomse Rijk onder aanvoering van keizer Karel V een definitieve nederlaag toebrachten aan het Schmalkaldisch Verbond van protestantse vorsten onder leiding van Filips I van Hessen. De Schmalkaldische aanvoerders konden niet tot een akkoord komen over de te voeren militaire acties op het slagveld, waardoor Karel V de verdediging van het Verbond kon doorbreken.
Karel V was op dat moment 47 jaar en leed aan jicht. Hij werd daarom op een draagberrie naar de strijd gedragen en niet op een groot oorlogsros, zoals afgebeeld door zijn hofschilder.
