De AVR-reactor is een van de twee kernreactoren nabij het Duitse Jülich bij Aken. En werd ook wel aangeduid met: FRJ-1, of Forschungsreaktor MERLIN.
Deze reactor was bedoeld als proefcentrale om de technische en economische haalbaarheid van hogetemperatuurreactoren met zogeheten kogelbed aan te tonen. De AVR-reactor staat direct naast het terrein van het Forschungszentrum Jülich en was in bedrijf van 1967 tot 1988, waarbij in totaal 15 terawattuur aan elektriciteits is opgewekt.
