Grube Maria was een steenkoolmijn die in 1848 werd opgericht door de mijnbouwmeester Eduard Honigmann, de vrederechter Friedrich Boelling en de textielfabrikant Leopold Schoeller op het grondgebied van Hoengen. De naam is gegeven naar de echtgenote van de eerste bedrijfsdirecteur Eduard Honigmann. De mijn werd in 1863 omgevormd tot de Aken-Höngener Bergwerk-Aktiengesellschaft, vanaf 1878 eerst gehuurd door de verenigingsmaatschappij voor steenkolenwinning in het Wurmgebied en vanaf 1890 gekocht en vanaf 1907 beheerd door fusie met de Eschweiler Bergwerksverein.
