De Grote Hondskop is een 824 m hoge berg boven NHN aan de Rennsteig in het Thüringer Woud. Hij ligt 3 km ten zuiden van Stützerbach en slechts 1 km noordoostelijk van het Frauenwald-dorpdeel Allzunah, dat net onder de top ligt, in de Ilm-Kreis, Thüringer Woud.
Vanuit het zuidwesten van de Hondskop takken er naar het zuiden zonder noemenswaardige dalen de ongeveer 8 km lange Staudenkopf-rug af, die in het westen begrensd wordt door de Nahe en in het oosten door de sluis, met de Grote Riesenhaupt bij Frauenwald, Schmiedswiesenkopf en de Koude Staudenkopf. Gescheiden door de Trenkbach van deze rug gaat de Rennwegkopf 751 m ten oosten van Frauenwald direct van de Hondskop naar het zuiden.
