Het metrostation werd geopend op 29 mei 2003, maar vanaf 1847 tot 1998 was er een spoorwegstation op deze locatie.
Station Frederiksberg werd geopend op 26 juni 1847 aan de spoorlijn Kopenhagen - Korsør en vervolgens aan de lijn Frederiksberg - Frederikssund. Vanaf 1934 maakte het station onderdeel uit van het S-tognetwerk. Het station sloot op 20 juni 1998 samen met het traject tussen Frederiksberg en Vanløse wat omgebouwd werd tot metrolijn. De nieuwe metrohalte werd ondergronds gebracht en met en nieuwe tunnel verbonden met het centrum van Kopenhagen. Het oude stationsgebouw is bij de reconstructie behouden gebleven, maar maakt geen onderdeel uit van de metrostation.
