Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port is een gemeente in het Franse departement Pyrénées-Atlantiques en telt 1511 inwoners . De plaats maakt deel uit van het arrondissement Bayonne. Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port is door Les Plus Beaux Villages de France erkend als een van de mooiste dorpen van Frankrijk.De stad werd gesticht in de 12de eeuw als versterkte plaats door de koningen van Navarra. De oude stad werd in de 15de eeuw ommuurd. De stadsmuur telt vier poorten: Porte de France, Porte de Navarre, Porte d'Espagne en Porte Saint-Jacques. In 1512 werd de stad ingenomen door het Spaanse leger en werd er gedurende decennia gevochten in de omgeving. In 1640 werd begonnen met de bouw van een citadel boven de stad naar plannen van Vauban maar ze werd nooit volledig afgewerkt.
