Dame Agatha Christie stierf op 12 januari 1976 op 85-jarige leeftijd door natuurlijke oorzaken in haar huis in Winterbrook. Ze wordt hier begraven op het kerkhof van St Mary's, Cholsey, een rustplaats die ze samen met haar man Sir Max had gekozen, zo'n tien jaar voordat ze stierf. De eenvoudige uitvaartdienst werd bijgewoond door een 20-tal journalisten en tv-verslaggevers, waarvan sommigen vanuit Zuid-Amerika waren gereisd. Dertig kransen sierden het graf van Dame Agatha, waaronder een uit de cast van haar langlopende toneelstuk The Mousetrap en een die 'namens de veelheid aan dankbare lezers' werd gestuurd door de Ulverscroft Large Print Book Publishers. Haar man, Max, stierf in 1978, 74 jaar oud.
