Gower ( Welsh : Gŵyr ) of het Gower-schiereiland ( Penrhyn Gŵyr ) ligt in Zuid-Wales . Het projecteert westwaarts in het Kanaal van Bristol en is het meest westelijke deel van het historische graafschap Glamorgan . In 1956 werd Gower het eerste gebied in het Verenigd Koninkrijk dat werd aangewezen als Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty .
Gower werd beheerd als een landelijk district van Glamorgan . In 1974 werd het samengevoegd met het district Swansea , om het district Swansea te vormen. Sinds 1996 wordt Gower beheerd als onderdeel van de eenheidsautoriteit van de gemeente City and County of Swansea .
Het Gower-kiesdistrict koos vanaf 1906 alleen Labour- leden , de langste serie (met Normanton en Makerfield ) van een kiesdistrict in het VK. Deze run eindigde in 2015 met de conservatieven die de plaats innamen. Het kiesdistrict omvat het schiereiland en de buitenste Gower-gebieden - Clydach , Gowerton , Gorseinon , Felindre , Garnswllt - en omvat het gebied van de Lordship of Gower , minder de stad Swansea.
