De plaats is gesitueerd bij de noordelijke rand van Imereti, dicht bij het gebied van Ratsja, bij de voet van Nakerala. Tkiboeli is een mijnbouwcentrum. Tkiboeli is gevestigd tussen twee kunstmatige reservoirs en is een bergachtig gebied. Er waren negen kolenmijnen maar nu zijn ze niet meer functioneel. Tkiboeli staat ook bekend om de thee die in het gebied wordt gekweekt en door het land verkocht.
