Het meest bezocht aan het Palazzo della Cancelleria is de Arco della Cancelleria.
De Boog van de Kanselarij is de poort die uitkwam aan de noordzijde van de eerste ommuring van San Gimignano en dateert uit de 10e-11e eeuw. In die tijd bestond de wijk achter de poort nog niet en vanaf hier ging de weg het open landschap in richting Pisa, een deel van de Via Francigena vormend. Tegenwoordig maakt dit gedeelte van de weg deel uit van de wijk San Matteo, die rond 1200 ontstond langs de wegas die handel en handelsmogelijkheden bevorderde.
