Maastricht ; Limburgs: Mestreech [məˈstʀeːç]; Frans: Maestricht ; Spaans: Mastrique ) is een stad en een gemeente in het zuidoosten van Nederland. Het is de hoofdstad en grootste stad van de provincie Limburg. Maastricht ligt aan beide zijden van de Maas, op het punt waar de Jeker erbij komt. De Sint-Pietersberg ligt grotendeels binnen de gemeentelijke grenzen van de stad. Maastricht ligt ongeveer 175 km ten zuidoosten van de hoofdstad Amsterdam en 65 km van Eindhoven; het grenst aan de grens met België en maakt deel uit van de Euroregio Maas-Rijn, een internationale metropool met een bevolking van ongeveer 3,9 miljoen, die de nabijgelegen Duitse en Belgische steden Aken, Luik en Hasselt omvat.
