Het Oeralgebergte wordt beschouwd als de grens tussen Europa en Azië. Het gebergte loopt ruwweg van noord naar zuid. Met een lengte van ongeveer 2.500 kilometer is de Oeral het langste gebergte van Europa. De breedte varieert tussen de 40 en 150 kilometer. De hoogste top is met 1894 meter de berg Narodnaja ("Volksberg") in het noorden. Hier in de buurt is het gebergte rond de 1000 meter hoog.
