Saint Croix is het zuidelijkste en grootste eiland van de Amerikaanse Maagdeneilanden. De hoofdplaats van de Amerikaanse Maagdeneilanden bevindt zich echter op Saint Thomas. Op Saint Croix wonen ongeveer 54.500 inwoners.
Het eiland was achtereenvolgens een kolonie van Spanje, Nederland, de Orde van Malta, Frankrijk, Denemarken en de Verenigde Staten.
