In the 17th and 18th centuries, a border church was a Catholic emergency church just outside the borders of the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. The border church of Grashut in the Weerterbos/Hugterheide was located on the current provincial border between Limburg and North Brabant, on the place where the Grenskerkmonument is now located in the Weerterbos. After the Treaty of Münster, this provincial border was the border between Staats-Brabant and Upper Guelders. The wooden border church that stood there was visited by Catholic believers from Leende and Cranendonck, their churches and chapels in the Republic had been requisitioned for Protestant worship.
