The Poelbergmolen has been functioning as a mill again since its restoration. It is a wooden post mill that dates back to the seventeenth century. The Woestijnbosstraat refers to wastine; a vague, unproductive piece of land often worked or grazed by poor agricultural laborers.
Further along the edge of the Dentergemstraat, large wall and yellow dead-nettle grow. You can certainly call them the ambassadors of the reforestation initiatives in the vicinity of the Meikensbos. Like the old forest (edge) plants, they indicate the former forest richness in this area.
It turns out that not only the northern, but also the western side of the Poelberg remained densely forested until the First World War. During that time, quite a bit of rural settlement also concentrated around the Poelberg. It was a real hamlet on the edge of the forest, where people were housed in numerous so-called kortwoonsten (small, sparse dwellings).
