Before 1910, this estate was about 300 hectares in size. It extended from the Lostraat to beyond the motorway. Only a small hunting lodge was present on the estate. Count De Grunne, former mayor of Aalter from 1921 to 1932, wanted to move to Aalter, but his wife wanted a beautiful castle instead of a small hunting lodge. The architect Flaneau, who also served King Albert, had to base his design for the new castle on the already purchased wooden interior paneling and fireplaces. The paneling and fireplaces date from the late 17th century to the beginning of the 18th century and come from a castle in Laval. The castle was built in 1910 in pure French style with a mansard roof and windows like the Château de Versailles.
With the construction of the motorway in 1937, this estate was significantly reduced in size and the former avenues were paved. The castle, currently owned by the Chabeau family, is very well maintained and was completely restored in 1992. The backyard is designed in the French style with complete symmetry. The other gardens are laid out according to the English standard.
