GR 129 Dwars door België | Vlaanderen

NL - De GR 129 loopt dwars door België, van Brugge tot de Ardennen. Met maar liefst 573 km aan bewegwijzerd traject is GR 129 de langste wandelroute van België. Dit pad toont wat Vlaanderen en Wallonië aan ‘platteland’ en ‘heuvelland’ te bieden hebben. 

Het Vlaamse gedeelte van de route vertrekt op de Vesten in Brugge en doorkruist West-Vlaanderen langs moeraslandschap, rechte veldwegen, natuurgebied en verschillende bossen. In Oost-Vlaanderen loopt het pad door de Leievallei en trekt verder naar Oudenaarde. Langs de oevers van de Schelde trek je de Vlaamse Ardennen in. Smalle paadjes voeren je tenslotte over de heuvels tot in het gehucht Louise-Marie (Maarkedal) waar het Vlaamse gedeelte eindigt. Op Waals grondgebied (provincie Henegouwen) trekt de GR 129 via Ath en Bergen langs de Maasvallei tot Dinant. Daarna doorkruis je de regio’s Condroz, Famenne, Ardennen, Gaume en Arelerland om uiteindelijk te eindigen in Aarlen. De Vlaamse televisiemaker Arnout Hauben ging op pad dwars door België en maakte er een televisieserie van die nog steeds te bekijken is op één.be.

EN - The GR 129 traverses Belgium from Bruges to the Ardennes and showcases the finest countryside and hills Flanders and Wallonia have to offer. Its 573 km of waymarked trails make it the longest hiking route in Belgium.

The Flemish section of the trail starts in Bruges at the Vesten, broad green ramparts around the city. From there, it runs across West Flanders along straight country roads and through marshes, nature reserves and several forests. In East Flanders, the path traverses the Leie valley and continues to Oudenaarde. Along the banks of the river Scheldt, you enter the Flemish Ardennes, where narrow paths lead you over the hills to the hamlet of Louise-Marie (Maarkedal). There, the GR 129 crosses over into Wallonia and guides you via Ath and Bergen through the Meuse valley to Dinant. Finally, you cross the natural regions of the Condroz, Famenne, Ardennes, Gaume and the Land of Arlon to arrive in the city of Arlon.
