Erezée, the starting point of this tough bike ride, is located in the middle of the Ourthe and Aisne regions, the two rivers that give this region its distinct character. The region, located in the north of the province of Luxembourg, has more than 100 villages and a real city: Durbuy. During this tour, you will discover Wéris and Ny, two of the 23 most beautiful villages in Wallonia. Wéris is best known for its menhirs and dolmens, but it also has many beautiful half-timbered sandstone houses. The Sint-Walburgekerk dates back to the 11th century. Ny owes its beauty to the combination of water and natural stone. A good example of this are the fountains against the church wall.
1. Start at the entrance to the church of Erezée (V) on your left. Cycle out of the village basin along Avenue du Centenaire until you can turn left onto a one-way street: Allée des Sorbiers. At the end turn right, on a crossroads straight into the rue des Monts. Go up to a T-junction, then turn left. Then the first street on the right, direction Amonines. You descend gently through a beautiful meadow landscape, with an impressive 360° panorama. At the junction with a rest bench on the right, direction Amonines, overlooking Hazeilles on the right. Then suddenly a much steeper descent, with the church of the Amonines in the distance. Then you pass an old railway track. Cross the railway and then the Aisne. Turn with the road and you find yourself in the bend of a busier road. Turn left and at the next fork turn right, direction Rendeux. You immediately begin a difficult climb. Just after the village school in front of a half-timbered house, turn right into Rue du Home. Pass the Church of the Amonines, descend slightly in front of a picnic area-, from now on it rises brilliantly between the meadows. At Croix Henquin (375 m) you turn left with the road at right angles. Turn right into the forest, then back between the meadows.
2. On an isolated chapel is the street name Fond des Malades. At a crossroads with a stone cross, turn left, direction Wy. Still a little descent with a beautiful panorama in front of you. Leave the roads towards the centre of Wy on the right and continue straight. You descend along a few hairpin bends, cross the stream of the Fond des Malades and start on a straight stretch, towards Magoster. 50 m before the power lines, take a sharp right turn. This road turns almost immediately to the left and splits into it. Choose the paved road on the left, descending between meadows with hedges. After a grove you come to a narrow road (on the right only traffic up to max. 3.5 tons is allowed). Turn left, stairs straight, over the Lisbelle stream.
3. Turn right at the junction, immediately after the end of the Beffe agglomeration sign. You descend straight for a while between loose buildings through an open landscape. After the sign of the name Trinal by the rue de Soy until the fork, with a chapel on the left. Turn right here and soon pass the sign at the end of the Trinal agglomeration. Turn left with the asphalt, rolling between the meadows. After a winding strip through the forest, you come to another road. Follow it on the right, direction Melines, passing a campsite and a war memorial. After a bridge, take rue de l'Isbelle on the left, direction Ny. After a steep climb, you will arrive at the crossroads with the Hotton-Erezée road with the monument of the 517th Rgt Paras Airborne. Straight ahead, direction Ny, descending for a moment through the forest, then after a left turn, past a large pond. From there, a beautiful view of the picturesque Ny, one of the most beautiful villages in Wallonia. At the junction on the left, pass in front of a water mill (1) and a chapel to the church with some fountains or bronzes. Now follow Rue des Fontaines on the right, direction Biron. At the junction with the chapel on the left, turn right towards Oppagne. Between the meadows to the first crossroads, with a beautiful chapel on the left. Here on the right the rue Birondai and on the church of Biron in altitude. Turn left here and onto the T, with a dead end to the left, follow to the right. At the crossroads with a mirror on the left and rue Saint-Pierre straight. You leave the village, pass in front of the castle of Biron.
4. Keep following the road through the forest until the end. There you turn right. From the forest, you pedal between the meadows. On the right, at an altitude of 285 m, are the three menhirs of Oppagne (2). Then a crossroads and on the second, just after the sign of agglomeration of Oppagne, turn left, direction Wéris. Follow this street to a busier road. Do not take them, but turn left into Pas Bayard (local traffic), with a loop back to the busiest road, which you cross carefully. On the other side, follow rue Marlaine. At the intersection with the chapel, straight, on a narrow paved road. You descend and cross a gravel road. At the next crossroads, turn right, a narrow paved road.
5. On the right is the centre of Wéris, one of the 23 most beautiful villages in Wallonia. After the agglomeration sign of Wéris you cross a crossroads, direction Heyd. Continue cycling on this hilly road, pass the cemetery, cross Morville to the center of Heyd where you leave the church to stay right on the triangular square. Turn right at the dangerous crossroads of the Village House. You go up, direction Ferme des Crêtes and restaurant La Gargouille. Ignore Rowe di Veûle on the right and continue in front of the House of Painters of Durbuy (3) with a beautiful chapel. Go further to a T-junction and turn right towards Lignely. At the next fork on the right (ignore on the left a street with a sturdy white chapel). At the intersection with a crucifix at the corner, turn left. You start the climb of the Col de Rideux (4), direction Lignely. With the necessary turns, you climb through the forest to the top, 370 m high. Here, the road splits. Turn right, direction Fanzel, with a breathtaking panorama. After the steep climb, the descent to Fanzel (10% gradient) is good. In the center, you arrive at a crossroads or if you want, in a bend of a busier road. Follow it on the left, direction Bomal. After the Auberge du Val d'Aisne, cross the Aisne. At the fork, with the restaurant Le Relais des Arts on the right, turn right, direction Erezée. Ignore on the left the street with the chapel on the corner and cross L'Estinale, which flows here into the Aisne. First along the Aisne, then again L'Estinale and next to it for a while. Cross the Estinale one last time and continue by bike along the rue du Stockay towards Erezée.
6. Leave the Pont des Soupirs (5), cross a crossroads and, after the Erezée agglomeration sign, take the first road on the right. In a farm we can read that it is the Rampe des Crétalles: finally, a rough climb to the church in the heights. At the end, turn left until you start point.
