The small farming community of Ringe, located on the German-Dutch border, was first mentioned in a document in 1329. The municipality of Ringe consisted mostly of moorland until the Second World War. However, during the war, large areas were cultivated by prisoners from the nearby Alexisdorf camp. After the war, the prisoner camp was converted into a refugee camp. Over time, a new village emerged from the camp, which is now called Neugnadenfeld and is part of the Ringe municipality. Due to cultivation, there are now only a few remaining pure moorland areas in the municipality. For several years, conservationists have been trying to restore parts of the former moorlands, as the shrinking moor areas are an important habitat for some endangered species. Ringe is also home to the historic Buddenberg Country House. The trading house has a history of over 200 years and was primarily a guesthouse and grocery store for the rural population. After it burned down in 1997, it was rebuilt and restored with the help of foundations and local heritage enthusiasts following the guidelines of monument conservation. Today, it operates as a hotel and restaurant.
