Not only will the landscape of the Ilmenau lowlands impress you along the way. Your eyes will repeatedly see sculptures that have been wonderfully integrated into the landscape of the Ilmenau lowlands and that have a different impact on you at different times of day and year. The fact that this art trail exists is already a small miracle. In 2005, hikers and walkers first discovered small stone towers and wooden figures along the Ilmenau. Initially, no one knew who they were from. Eventually, the then initially unknown artist Benjamin Redeleit was identified as the creator. His simple yet memorable art in the landscape was so well received that the idea arose to install a sculpture trail in the natural area of the Ilmenau together with other artists. A total of eleven artists from the region came together and realized the project. Each - from sculptors to blacksmiths - created an object along the path. From wood to stone, and metal to plastic - the materials of the sculptures are quite different, as are the artists. Each has their own creative world that becomes visible in the works. Redeleit: "The sculpture trail invites you to experience art and nature in an excellent symbiosis. For children, curiosity and the urge to discover are as natural as eating and drinking. Unfortunately, this ability is often lost to us adults because we rarely take the time for it. Yet it is so much fun to find the unknown, hidden, or forgotten!"
