Tour description: To the forests near Nordkirchen - 57 km of cycling pleasure in the Münsterland nature reserves

The former Arenberg forests now belong to the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The oak-hornbeam forests around Hirschpark, beautifully blooming in spring with starwort and primroses, and the equally impressive large patches of ramsons around Haus Ichterloh are among the most beautiful forest images that any nature lover can imagine!

These areas have also been prepared for ecotourism as part of the Schlossachse Nordkirchen-Westerwinkel and invite for relaxation and experience (www.schloesserachse.de).

Both forests are part of the EU's Fauna-Flora-Habitat (FFH) areas. Further areas around Schloss Nordkirchen and in Ermen have been designated as nature reserves by the Coesfeld district. The high proportion of old beech and oak trees is the basis for a rich bird fauna. Five woodpecker species alone - Middle, Black, Green, Lesser and Great Spotted Woodpecker - are among them.

Signposting notes: The bike path with the cloverleaf logo follows the marked route network (red text, red arrow, red bike). In addition, there are signposts with local information as insert panels with the cloverleaf logo.

Where this official path network is left, the hexagonal signs with blue arrows and blue bikes take over the wayfinding.
