GH 03B Boeschoten

Are you coming by bus? Your stop is the Mooi Veluwe Putten bus stop, line 107 Syntus. The walk ends at the Stroe Centrum bus stop, line 107 Syntus.

The Boeschoten walk takes you through many forest paths of the Veluwe. You walk the original GH route in reverse.
You pass the Veenhuizerveld, a peat area from 1843, the picturesque Wiltforsterhoeve Boeschoten with its sheep sheds, the Watergraafsmeertje, an old pond in the Boeschoterhei, and you end in Stroe, one of the oldest settlements in our country according to Veluwe expert Jac. Gazenbeek.

The white-red signs of the Marskramerpad and Zuiderzeepad guide your way. More information about these long-distance hikes can be found at www.wandelnet.nl.

The starting point, Hotel Mooi Veluwe, is an inviting place where you can stop for a delicious cup of coffee early on.
There is ample free parking available.
You can also park your car in the center of Stroe, then take the bus first to the starting point on line 107 to the Mooi Veluwe stop.
If you come by bus line 107 from Putten, Stroe, or Garderen, then Mooi Veluwe is your stop.
In Stroe, there are gastronomic establishments on both sides of the railway crossing.

Directions for Boeschoten.
1. Walk on the side of the road where the Hampshire Hotel Mooi Veluwe is located to the ANWB signpost 62800. Turn into the Oude Gardenseweg, the clay path with a bike lane. You are on the Zuiderzeepad; marked in white and red. At the intersection with the Arnhemse Karweg at P-20830, continue straight until you reach the intersection with Peppelderweg. Turn right. Take the first path on the left and go until you reach the T-junction between the fields. Follow the grass path to the left. Cross the sandy path with the bike lane and continue along the end of the path.

2. Turn left onto the narrow path, which connects to the sandy path further along. You cross the Kolthoornseweg and Batoweg and continue for about 200 m. Turn right onto the forest path. Follow the path as it curves left until you reach the forest road. Turn right at the T-junction. Follow the sandy path with the bike lane to the left. Take the first sandy path on the right. At the T-junction, turn left. On Poolseweg, at the level of Veenhuizerweg, continue straight, here you leave the Zuiderzeepad.
You walk along the development of Veenhuizerveld, which with Krachtighuizen belongs to the neighborhoods that were created in 1843 for the day laborers involved in the peat harvest that took place here.
Follow Poolseweg until you reach Boeschoterweg. Turn left and you are now on the Marskramerpad (marked in white and red).

3. Walk leisurely along Boeschoterweg. Continue straight at the intersections with Drosteweg and Domeinenweg until you reach the five-way intersection with a wood closure tree on the right and access to the forest on the left. Choose the white-red marked forest path diagonally to the left along the sign "Speulder and Sprielderbos."
After just over 1 km, you pass a farm. Turn left at the end of the path. At the power station, sharply turn right onto the sandy path, Arnhemse Karweg, and go 500 m further until P-25320. Keep to the left. About 70 m after a distinct right curve, turn left along the sign "Opengesteld" onto a narrow path. At the end of the path, turn right until after the wood closure tree. Turn left onto the sandy path and immediately turn right after that. You exit the Klein Boeschoten estate along the red closure tree onto the sandy path with a bike lane.

Boeschoten has been settled since the fourteenth century. The old-fashioned sheep barn, which used to stand on the Boeschoterhei and is now surrounded by forest, has been beautifully restored. The medieval fields in the surrounding area are used by the Staatsforstbetrieb. Rye and wheat are grown without the use of fertilizers or pesticides, and only manure is used. Hence, a rich flora of field herbs grows there, attracting various birds, mice, and butterflies.
Near the sheep barn, there is a nice rest area with several picnic spots.

4. Turn left onto the sandy path with a bike lane. At the intersection, about 300 m further, turn right along the sign "Veluwe Boeschoten" into the forest, a riding and carriage route. After 200 m, turn left at the four-way intersection. Follow the path as it curves right until the end. Go right along the heather field until you reach the intersection with the picnic bench. Turn right until the four-way intersection. Turn left. At the next four-way intersection, turn left again.

In the forest is a lovely pond, the Watersemeertje (also called Watergraafsmeertje) in the Boeschoterhei. The pond is fed by rainwater and has never dried up in summer, as the water remains due to a hard, impermeable layer underground. Here you can find the brown and heather toad, the small water salamander, and the toad.

Before the Watersemeertje, turn right onto the busy road.

5. Cross and go along the sandy path until the five-way intersection. Choose the second path on the right (ignore the rider path). At the intersection, turn right. You pass an intersection and continue until the diagonal intersection. Take the rider and carriage path to the left. The winding path ends at a sandy path. Turn right and immediately turn left after 20 m. Hike until the T-junction. Go right to the sandy path with the bike lane (Harderwijkerweg). Turn left. At P-20241, go left along the asphalt road, Tolnegenweg. After about 1 km, you reach Stroe. At the railway crossing, turn right towards the bus stop Centrum next to and across from the Spar supermarket. This is the endpoint of this walk.
